  • The cement coaling tower at CP Farm is an iconic location on the former Norfolk & Western Pocahontas Division. The tower is a holdover from the days when Y and A-class steam locomotives dominated this territory hauling black diamonds out of the heart of Appalachia. CP Farm is also where pusher sets are often added to heavy coal trains going over Elkhorn Grade, 7-2-20.
  • On a day trip to the Norfolk Southern’s famed Pocahontas Division, we visited a few of the popular locations. After waiting for several hours to get a train at the signature shot crossing Tug Fork coming out of Welch Tunnel, we heard Westbound empty grainer 51E call the signals at Welch. Being way out of cell phone range we had no idea the PRR heritage unit was leading. We were very happily surprised to see a Tuscan Red nose emerge from the bore, 7-2-20.
