  • One of the shots that I wanted on this trip was a Westbound freight at The Dalles with the former mill as the backdrop. After one afternoon of getting no train, we tried again three days later knowing there was a Westbound coming. Unfortunately, that train was held for a fleet of Eastbounds. We were losing time due to an obligation that evening (the real reason for the trip) when one of the intermodal happened to have two DPUs. Sometimes you just have to take what you can get, 7-16-21.
  • The Oregon Rail Heritage Unit excursion train rolls past former Northern Pacific caboose 1735, which now serves as seating for the Mount Hood Brewing Company Tilikum Station. Locomotive 100 was built in 1952 for the Portland Traction Company, 7-17-21.
  • Former Southern Pacific class GS-4 #4449, a 4-8-4 "Northern" is seen on display at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in Portland. The locomotive was built by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio in May, 1941 and was painted in the orange "Daylight" scheme to haul Southern Pacific passenger trains in California. The locomotive is fully operational and is the only of its class remaining. In 1976 the locomotive traveled the country for the Freedom Train event as part of the bicentennial of the nation, 7-17-21.
