It is rather unusual to see a locomotive on the inbound side of an MBTA commuter rail train. Due to the forecast today, several sets had engines on each end to deal with snow. Train 1306 is seen at Montvale Ave on the old Boston & Maine New Hampshire Route, 12-17-20.

  • Amtrak train 470 is seen headed North into Springfield as locomotive 103 brings up the markers in push mode, 11-9-21.
  • CT Rail train 4405 is seen departing Springfield for New Haven, 11-9-21.
  • Due to a mechanical failure, a work train power set was sent out to rescue a morning commuter train. The return trip allowed for a not-so-common shot of a locomotive facing South by the new signals in Wilmington, 9-27-21.

I never thought that I would see a New Hampshire Northcoast Geep pulling a commuter rail train, but here we are. Due to PTC implementation, this engine needed the upgrade in order to pull trains into the city to Boston Sand & Gravel. The engine was put on a commuter set and run on the Eastern route to test the new equipment. The train is seen passing through the industrial sections of Everett and Chelsea, 12-29-20.

  • The MassDOT/MBTA Rail Extra is seen crossing through the middle of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. The track that the train is on is known as the "Grand Junction" and is the connecting track for both the MBTA and Amtrak between the north and south side, 6-10-20.
