  • This was the last train image that I shot in 2022. Although I was able to travel to some fantastic places, the year proved to be difficult with the loss of two immediate family members. I look forward to the exciting and positive things that 2023 will bring. <br /> <br /> This locomotive was built in 1953 for the Detroit & Toledo Shore Line. It has been on the Bay Colony roster since 1987 and carries a GP8 designation following a rebuild. Although it looks abandoned, the engine does run on infrequent occasions to handle trains to the Tresca Concrete plant in Mills, 12-27-22.
  • On a perfect Autumn day, New England Central 611 is seen passing through the village of Three Rivers in Palmer. The lead locomotive is NECR 3474 which was built in January 1969 as an SD45 for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy. Although still sporting the classic carbody and flared radiators its rebuild classification is an SD40M-2, 10-27-22.
  • On a perfect Autumn day, New England Central 611 is seen passing through the village of Three Rivers in Palmer. The lead locomotive is NECR 3474 which was built in January 1969 as an SD45 for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy. Although still sporting the classic carbody and flared radiators its rebuild classification is an SD40M-2, 10-27-22.
  • On a perfect Autumn day, New England Central 611 is seen heading South through Leverett, MA, and passing the 1,269-foot Mount Toby which is still showing some peak foliage. The lead locomotive is NECR 3474 which was built in January 1969 as an SD45 for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy. Although still sporting the classic carbody and flared radiators its rebuild classification is an SD40M-2, 10-27-22.
  • On a perfect Autumn day, New England Central 611 is seen emerging from a tree tunnel at Ripley Road in Montague. The train is traveling along the old Central Vermont Southern Division main. Although still sporting the classic carbody and flared radiators its rebuild classification is an SD40M-2, 10-27-22.
  • The NHN 3825 and FURX leaser 5509 are seen at the shop lead in North Billerica. The locomotives were running on the MBTA Lowell Line (former B&M New Hampshire Route) to test the new PTC systems, 12-21-21.

As part of that process, the G&U crews are using the locomotives on regular freight service for testing. The pseudo-Rio Grande paint is a nice touch. Today 9619 is leading GU-1. PNLX 9619 is a GMD GP40-2LW originally built in August 1975 for the Canadian National Railway. The train is seen at the classic location at Old Upton Road in the Kittville section of Grafton, 8-2-21.

The bridge over Fore River from Quincy into Weymouth is seen above the train. The classic General Electric B23-7 was built as Conrail 1992 in July of 1979, 1-7-21.
