Boston, MA - 9th Alarm, 298 Beacon Street, 3-26-14
Just after 2:30 P.M. Boston fire alarm transmitted Box 1579 for a building fire at 298 Beacon Street. Engine 33 was first to arrive and reported smoke showing from a four story brick OMD. Companies rescued occupants from the upper floors while Engine 33 advanced a line to the basement. Conditions quickly deteriorated trapping two members from Engine 33. Firefighter Michael Kennedy was removed from the basement and transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The body of Lieutenant Ed Walsh was recovered several hours later. These images are shown here to document the fire and to honor the sacrifice made by these two heroes. In over 12 years of photographing fire and emergency scenes this was the toughest scene that I have ever encountered to photograph. Due to the nature of the incident these images will not be for sale. RIP Brothers.
