Saugus, MA - 8th Alarm, Broadway & Essex Street, 7-23-11

A loaded gasoline tanker rolled over at Broadway (Route 1) and Essex Streets in Saugus, MA just after 2 am. After rolling over the contents ignited causing a large explosion and fire. The burning contents got in to the sewers causing the fire to extend to multiple buildings as far as several blocks away. Eight alarms worth of apparatus responded to the scene. The scene was also a major hazmat and environmental disaster. Several other vehicles were involved in the initial accident and the driver of the tanker perished in the blaze.
