Winthrop, MA - Working Fire, 24 Tafts Ave, 1-11-04

At 16:26 hours on January 11th 2004, Winthrop Fire Department recieved a phonecall for a fire on Surfside Ave. Engine 1 was first to arrive and reported smoke showing. A corrected address of 24, and 26 Tafts Ave was Given. Lt. Rich of Winthrop Engine 1 called for Signal 199 (Off Duty Help), and Box 4 was struck. Chief Powers ordered a Working Fire after he arrived on scene. This brought in Massport Engine 1. The heavy fire on the exterior was knocked down, and companies advanced hose lines into the building. The main body of the fire was knocked down using an aggressive interior attack. A line was stretched on the outside of the building to protect the exposures. The companies made a quick knockdown, but were on scene for several hours due to extensive overhauling. The all out was sounded at 19:48. Note: Prints not available for this, as these are scanned 35 mm pictures.
