Boston, MA - 3rd Alarm, 292 Meridian Street, 2-13-04
Two Boston firefighters were injured in this three alarm fire on February 13th 2004. At 10:38 PM Engine 5 and Ladder 2 were sent to a still alarm at Box 6173, Meridian and Lexington Streets (East Boston). Boston Fire Alarm Office began recieving multiple phone calls for a fire at 292 Meridian Street. Box 6173 was struck, and Engine 9, Engine 56, Ladder 21, Tower Ladder 3, Rescue 1, Car 1, the Rehab Unit (W25) and the Marine Unit were added to the response. Ladder 2 arrived on scene and reported smoke showing. Companies were met with heavy fire conditions in the building, and at 10:46 Car 1 Chief Hartnett ordered a second alarm. The second alarm brought Chelsea MA Engine 4, Boston Engine 8, Engine 4, Engine 50, Engine 10, Ladder 1, Ladder 24, numerous special units and additional chiefs. The 3rd alarm was struck by Deputy Chief Martin Fisher of Division 1 at 11:02. This brought Engine 21, Engine 22, and Ladder 18. Commissioner Christian also responded on the 3rd alarm and assumed command of the incident. Once the fire was knocked down, he called for two additional Ladder trucks for overhaul duty. (Ladder 15, and Ladder 26). Two Boston Firefighters were transported to Mass General Hospital for fall injuries. Note: Prints not available for this, as these are scanned 35 mm pictures.
